Disaster Relief Brings Hope to Flood-Affected Families in Sindhupalchwok
On September 28, 2024, severe landslides and floods devastated the Sunkoshi and Indrawati regions in Sindhupalchok district, displacing families and causing significant property damage. In response, FAIRMED in collaboration with its local partner, took action to provide essential relief to the most affected households.
Through quick assessments conducted by social mobilizers, ward officials, and Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs), 13 families—comprising 61 individuals—were identified as needing immediate support. On October 9, a relief distribution was carried out, targeting these households with essential materials such as:
- Food supplies: Rice, lentils, oil, and cooking spices
- Bedding: Blankets, bedsheets, pillows, and mattresses
- Hygiene kits: Toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, and towels
- Household items: Buckets, kitchen tools, and foam for mattresses
These provisions were vital in stabilizing the situation and ensuring that the families could begin rebuilding their lives.
Beyond the initial relief efforts, the team will conduct follow-up assessments to identify additional needs and work closely with local governments to support long-term rehabilitation efforts, such as temporary shelters. This collaboration ensures a pathway for sustainable recovery for these vulnerable communities.
