Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) Training Manual - FAIRMED Nepal Collaborates with Health Training Centre, Lumbini Province
With an objective of building capacity on the local level among the community health professionals, FAIRMED Nepal together with Health Training Centre, Lumbini Province published training manuals for early diagnosis, management and prevention of Neglected Tropical Diseases found in Nepal.
10 among 20 of the Neglected Tropical Diseases (enlisted by the World Health Organization) are found in Nepal. More specifically, diseases such as Leprosy, Lymphatic Filariasis, Dengue, Kalazar and Snake Bites are more rampant in the Terai Region; and because of infection, many have become disabled and even lost their lives to these diseases. To make things worse, these diseases are neglected systematically. Thus, with an objective of building the capacity for prevention and to aid in management of these diseases from the local level, Health Training Centre, Lumbini Province through FAIRMED Nepal’s support developed the training manual for health professionals including Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs)
Separate and individual training manuals for each of the neglected diseases were developed in the past. However, these new manuals include all the information related to timely diagnosis, management, and prevention of all these ten diseases in one book. These three manuals can be used on multiple levels depending upon the scope of health professional’s role. The three manuals are:
- Guideline for Basic NTD Training to Health Workers
- Participants’ Book for 3 Days Basic NTD Training for Health Workers
- Participants’ Book for 2 Days Basic NTD Training for Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs)
