In-depth Review of Leprosy Control Programme and Envisioning Roadmap of Zero Leprosy, Nepal”
Ms. Nirmala Sharma, Country Coordinator of FAIRMED Nepal, participated in the “In-depth Review of Leprosy Control Programme and Envisioning Roadmap of Zero Leprosy, Nepal”. The review process was facilitated by the EDCD/MOHP in close collaboration with World Health Organization, Global Partnership for Zero Leprosy, ILEP partners and Persons Affected by Leprosy.
The review process started on 7th July with a briefing and sharing updates meeting followed by field visits and situation analysis. It concluded with the findings dissemination program on 17th July 2019.
The review process was facilitated by the leprosy Control and disability management Section, EDCD/MOHP and participated by officials from government, international organizations like WHO, Global Partnership for Zero Leprosy, and also by expert independent Consultants from various countries.
The main objectives of this review were to make an independent, comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the current leprosy situation, and leprosy elimination efforts in the new federalized context, and to provide an expert advice and sound recommendations for strengthening of leprosy services and its surveillance. Additionally, to serve as a midterm review of the implementation of the 2016-2020 National Leprosy Strategy, and to envision a roadmap to reach zero leprosy in Nepal.
The GON provided a certificate of appreciation for the collaborating organizations including FAIRMED Nepal which was not only a recognition for our roles in eradicating Leprosy, but also set a ground for FM’s formal entry into NTDs in Nepal.
