EHP launched Leprosy Case Detection campaign during August-December 2019 in 4 municipalities of Kapilvastu districts namely Yasodhara RM,Bijaynagar RM,Shivaraj Municipality and Maharajgunj Municpality with the purpose of early detection of Leprosy cases in project areas. The camp was conducted with the objective of saving the affected people from physical disability and deformity by providing them timely treatment.

Health Award 2019
Health Newspaper (Swastha Khabar Patrika) select best health worker each year for health award, based on his or her contribution in rural health service. This year too, an annual health award ceremony was held on 4 September 2019, sponsored by National Health Magazine “Swastha Khabar Patrika” in order to recognize the contribution of people in specific areas of health.
Laboratory Support provided to Sisuwa Health Post-Kapilvastu
FAIRMED Foundation Nepal’s -“Essential Health Project(EHP)” in partnership with Kalika Self-Reliance Social Center(KSSC) organized a program to distribute tools and equipment’s for the laboratory of Sisuwa Health Post, Ward no-9, Kapilvastu. All the equipment’s were distributed as per the National Lab Service Operation guideline 2073.
In-depth Review of Leprosy Control Programme and Envisioning Roadmap of Zero Leprosy, Nepal”
Ms. Nirmala Sharma, Country Coordinator of FAIRMED Nepal, participated in the “In-depth Review of Leprosy Control Programme and Envisioning Roadmap of Zero Leprosy, Nepal”. The review process was facilitated by the EDCD/MOHP in close collaboration with World Health Organization, Global Partnership for Zero Leprosy, ILEP partners and Persons Affected by Leprosy.
Formation of a consortium of organizations working in the field of Leprosy and NTDs
A memorandum of understanding was signed on 15 August 2019 among the six national and International organizations currently involved in the NPZL- NTDD. The members include: Damien Foundation Nepal, FAIRMED, Nepal, International Nepal Fellowship (INF), Pokhara, Nepal Leprosy Trust (NLT), The Leprosy Mission Nepal (TLMN), Satdobato, Until No Leprosy Remains (NLR) Nepal.
Training of Trainers on Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs)
FAIRMED Nepal, through its Essential Health Project (EHP) organized a TOT on NTDs (Leprosy, LF, STH, and disability) for the selected Medical Officers, and Health workers from project targeted Hospitals and Primary Health Care Centers in close collaboration with the LCDMS/NTDS, Family Welfare Division, INF Pokhara (GP Hospital), and NLT, Lalgadh.
Disability Mapping Data Handover
FAIRMED Foundation Nepal handed over the disability data to Disability Upliftment Society (DUS), a wing of National Federation of Disabled Nepal (NFDN) in presence of chief guest Sr. Vice President of NFDN Mr. Devi Pokharel on September 13, 2018. FAIRMED in coordination with NFDN conducted a disability mapping survey in six municipalities and four rural municipalities of Kapilvastu district to address the provision mentioned in Disability Act 2017, Section-six that every municipality should create data base record of people with disabilities living in municipality. If the name is not listed in data, then government will not abide to provide government provisions/facilities to the people with disabilities. The objective of the survey was to identify the number, types, causes and socio economic status of people with disabilities in the district. From the survey, 5093 number of people with disabilities were identified. Among them, 50.36% are with physical disabilities, 8.4% with mental disabilities and 13.52 % with multiple disabilities.
